Goulbourn Atom Girls Basketball Team
Brings Home Silver Medal!
The Goulbourn Atom Girls competitive basketball team
brought home the Silver Medal in Division 2 of the 2007
Eastern Ontario Atom Girls’ Basketball Championships
held Friday, March 30 to Sunday, April 1st . The
Stingers began the tournament with their usual stingy
defense against the Ottawa Shooting Stars leading to a
30-21 win. The second game saw the Stingers defeat a
strong Kingston Cavaliers squad by a score of 28-25. In
their third game of the day, the Stingers had their
greatest challenge going up against the powerhouse
Gloucester AA Wolverines. The Stingers played a very
strong defensive game and held the Wolverines to their
closest game of the round robin portion of the tourney.
With a record of 2 and 1 the Stingers made it to
Division 2. Sunday morning in the semi-final, the
Stingers played a strong game against the Kemptville
Warriors and were rewarded with a 32-24 win and a berth
in the division finals. The gold medal game saw the
Stingers come up against the Kingston Cavaliers again.
In a fast paced, exciting game that went right down to
the final seconds the Cavaliers came away with a 31-30
victory.

The Stingers have had a very successful season, first,
placing fourth at the Barrhaven Major Atom Girl’s
Basketball Tournament in November. The team followed
this up with a bronze medal at the Kingston Fighting
Irish Tournament January (missing out on the gold medal
game by a last second shot that barely rimmed out).
Through teamwork and strong leadership, the team earned
a birth to the quarterfinals at the Provincials in
London. They capped their season with their great finish
at the League Championship in April. Well done Stingers!
The Team would like to thank Coach David Byck, Assistant
Coach Dawn Murphy, Trainer Glenn Carr and co-managers,
Anne Leeks and Mike de van de Schueren for their
selfless dedication, commitment, hard work and integrity
they have brought to the girls and to the game.
