Hornets Major Atom Girls Win Bronze
The Goulbourn Hornets
Major Atom Girls basketball team played in the 17th Annual
Chris Paulin Tournament Dec. 3-5, 2010 being held at Sacred
Heart High School in Stittsville, Ontario. This tournament
was held for many age categories and was hosted throughout
Kanata, Stittsville and Barrhaven and was run by the Kanata
Youth Basketball Association. The Hornets entered the
tournament undefeated after the league seeding tournament
and 2 regular season games.
For the first game of the
tournament, the Hornets met up against Ottawa South Bedrock,
and defeated them 38-26. (player of the game - #4 Sasha
Thomson). Next they were matched up against the Russell
Rockets who gave them a run for their money but the Hornets
fought hard to win the game with a score 28-27. (player of
the game - #13 Nicole Murphy). To finish the round robin,
they met up with Capital Xelles defeating them 38-16 (player
of the game - #5 Grace Byron) securing a spot in the
semi-finals against the Nepean Bluedevils.
Nepean was a
strong team. Goulbourn gave it their all and lost in a very
tight game 21-18 (player of the game - #6 Talia Kotuba). The
girls handled themselves with enthusiasm and dignity for
their first loss of the season.
The Hornets were down
but not out. They came back with a vengeance and lots of
spirit to win the bronze medal game against the Russell
Rockets with a score of 39-22 (player of the game -#22
Sydney Whitmore).
Congratulations Hornets! This is just
the beginning of the season with lots of good things yet to
come.
