to decide which teams advanced
to the a-side finals on Sunday.
The hot hand from the foul line
on Saturday evening gave the
Hornets the wildcard spot in the
division 2A semi-finals by one
point. The Hornets played the
Oakville Venom in their
semi-final game. The Hornets got
off to a slow start to trail
8-21 after the first quarter and
17-27 at half. The Hornets could
not recover and lost 62-54.

afternoon the Welland Warriors.
At half, the score was 18-19 for
Welland. The Hornets played a
solid second half to win 48-35
and claim the division 2A bronze

Silver Lining for Hornets
The Goulbourn Hornets Major
Bantam boys basketball team recently took silver
in both the Gloucester Wolverine Boys Invitational
Tournament and the Eastern Ontario Division 1 Basketball
Championships.
The Hornets started their run the
first weekend of March. In the opening game of the
Gloucester tournament, the Hornets battled to a one
point win over Dawson, one of the top triple A
basketball clubs from Montreal. In the second game of
pool action, the Hornets defeated Brookwood 58-42. The
Hornets played Cambridge in the third game of pool play.
Cambridge had the hot hand and walked away with a 57-50
victory. Goulbourn finished pool play with a late day
68-37 victory over the West Land Lakers.
The
strong start advanced the Hornets to semi-final play on
the Sunday which featured a rematch versus Cambridge.
The Hornets made some defensive adjustments and took to
the floor. The defensive double teams proved effective
and the Hornets rebounded with a 61-39 win. The Hornets
then faced the host Gloucester Wolverines in the
tournament championship. The Hornets battled hard, but
eventually went down 60-46 to claim silver. Hornet Corey
Johnson had an outstanding weekend on the court. He was
selected as the Hornet’s player of the game in each and
every game of the tournament including the championship
final.
The second weekend of March, the Hornets
took part in the Eastern Ontario Basketball Association
Division 1 Championships at South Carleton High School
in Richmond. The Hornets met the Nepean Bobcats in
semi-final play. The Hornets avenged two previous losses
this season with a 50-41 win and advanced to the
championship game.
The Hornets met the Gloucester
Wolverines in the championship final. The Hornets kept
the game close, but could not pull ahead and came out on
the short end of the 55-47 final score to claim silver.
The Hornets are coached by John Johnson, Kim Currie,
and Colin Anderson and are managed by Marian Corak.
