Hornet Major Bantam Girls' B Team Golden Again at EOBA Tournament
On the weekend of April 1-3, the Goulbourn Hornets Major Bantam B Girls' team hosted the Eastern Ontario
Basketball Association Bantam Division A tournament at
Sacred Heart High School. The Hornets entered the tournament
as the second seeded team. In the first round, Goulbourn got
off to a strong start, beating Upper Canada 57 -12. In the
quarter final against the Ottawa Xcelles, Goulbourn won
35-17, avenging a 2 point loss to the Xcelles earlier in the
week. The semi final game saw Goulbourn facing the number
one seeded Elgin Wildcats, and defeated them 26-19 to earn a
place in the gold medal game. In the tournament final,
Goulbourn played Gloucester. The Hornets had a slow start
but fought their way back, just missing a last second shot
for the win, instead ending regulation play tied 20-20. The
gym had been loud throughout the game with fans for both
teams cheering wildly, but overtime had it turned up to
another level. The Hornets buzzed to an early 25-21 lead,
before Gloucester mounted one last desperate challenge, and
cut the deficit to just 1. The Hornets were not to be denied
though, as they bore down, making some key defensive stops
down the stretch to seal the victory and win the gold medal
with a score of 25-24. Robin Cook was chosen as the Player
of the Game. Head coach Ajai Puri said, “The Hornets
frustrated their opponents with a high energy, swarming team
defense. It was a great tournament for all the girls as
every player scored over the weekend, and played key roles
at different times. Another terrific team effort.”

Major Bantam Girls B Team Bring Home
the Gold!
The Goulbourn Hornets Major Bantam B
girls' team played in the Mike O’Connor Memorial Tournament in
Gloucester on February 11-13. It was their second tournament
of the 2010-2011 season and was a very successful event for
the team!
On Friday, the Hornets beat Brockville
25-19. Keeping up the pace on Saturday, the Hornets won
their two next games! In the first game against GCBA
Selects, the Hornets won 54-27 and went on to defeat the
Ottawa Xelles 30-24 in the second game. These wins sent them
to the semi-finals on Sunday, where the Hornets faced the
Xelles for a second time and won 27-16. Next up for the
Hornets was the gold medal final against Gloucester! The
team continued to play strong defeating Gloucester 30-22 in
an exciting game and bringing home the hardware!
Emily Mount received the Hustler award in
the final game. The coaching staff felt the Hornets' success
was a result of a complete team effort. Opponents could not
focus on any single player to disrupt their play. This was
the key to victory throughout the weekend.
